Tour Description
This tour departs from Perth's Crown Hotels & Casino complex at 8:00 am every Wednesday and Thursday, with pick-ups from selected CBD accommodation available on request. You’ll start your morning with a journey through the Swan Valley to the charming monastic town of New Norcia. This fascinating area was first settled in 1846 by Spanish Benedictine Monks, and utilised as a mission for the Indigenous peoples of the region. It is now Australia's only monastic town, known for the Mediterranean feel of its Spanish architecture. Immerse yourself in the culture and history of the Indigenous people and our early European heritage. Take a very informative guided tour through St Gertrude's College, and a wander through the Abbey Church, the area's oldest church and great insight into the Indigenous and early European inhabitants of the region. Enjoy a morning tea stop (own expense) during your tour to recharge your batteries for the remainder of your day.
Visit the local produce shop for a chance to purchase locally produced goods such as fresh fruit, crisp wines, smooth olive oil, the popular New Norcia nut cake and delicious fresh bread, all made by the locals. Maybe you would like to learn a little bit more about this fascinating area and prefer to visit the local museum and art gallery. After time in the produce shop or the art gallery, enjoy the included lunch at the New Norcia Hotel.
After lunch, we head back to the Swan Valley, making stops to look at the famous West Australian wildflowers when they are in season (Sept - Nov).
On reaching the Swan Valley, we take advantage of the abundance of delicious food and wine producers and sample some of the region's offerings. Enjoy tastes of goodies such as chocolate, nougat, and gourmet nuts (varies according to season). End the afternoon with an Australian Afternoon Tea, complete with wine, before heading back to Perth in the early evening, returning to your pick-up location.
